There hasn't been much progress since last week until Tuesday. Below you can see that we tore into it some more. We took out the bench, upper wall cabinets, the rest of the ceiling, and a mis-matched wall panel. That wall panel revealed a bit of rot in the corner, and missing insulation that will need to be fixed. Dropping the ceiling revealed a few more rafters that need to be fixed. Not what I expected and hoped for but I'd rather know about it to sure it up.
Next to go is the table and bench. I can make better use of the space with cabinets flush with the wheel well, and a counter across. My only question is; Should we make it a drop down or a permanent counter?
Cabinets or a shelf will go up above this window for the length of the wall. Ikea has nice ones but they are a bit pricey. I may try Affordable Furniture To Go, or even that plain laminate modular pieces from Walmart. I have to keep weight in mind as I build this. I don't want junk, but it needs to be light and sturdy. I have a lot of stuff to store so not replacing storage is not an option.
Not feeling any energy to do more wrecking yesterday I spent a few hours measuring. I measured Everything as you can see below. My next rainy day activity will be to draw up some blueprints of this on the computer. I'm a visual person, when I shop or design the needed features I want to see if it'll fit or work, not just go "ya it'll work" and get home to realize I'm running back to the store to return it.
These are some more fabrics I found at Sewfisticated in Dorchester. Not really what I was hoping for but the prices there are very reasonable (under $8.00 a yd). The nice man there is pulling solid durable fabrics for me today from the warehouse, grays and greens. So I need to trek back there today to see if any will do.
Tuesday I dropped off my mother's industrial Singer sewing machine to get repaired. Probably the fondest memory I have of her was helping her sew everything. It was hard dropping it off but it'll be back and working in no time to start on the cushion for the couch/bed.
I still want to see if I can make it so the bed is bigger. I have cushions for a day bed that are very comfy that I would love to utilize. It would then pull out into almost a double bed. That would be superb.
I even found some acrylic backed sunbrella material (waterproof) that I could make an awning with for the outside.
Enough blabber, time to start my day and measure some more. And get more photos of the interior. I'm really edging to paint!

Definitely should make the table drop-down. That gives you so much more space and is fairly simple to do. Coming along!
ReplyDeleteJacqui, that table and other seat is hopefully coming out tonight. :-) It'll be replaced with regular chairs.
